A powerful camera system. High-definition camera. We know that ASIO will be your inspectors’ deported eyes, and as such we selected the best-in-class camera sensor. Produced by Sony, with a 4K resolution (3840×2160 pixels), it allows you to spot the tiniest details in true colors and to capture 12 megapixels pictures directly during the flight.

Audio Stream Input/Output (ASIO) is a computer sound card driver protocol for digital audio specified by Steinberg, providing a low-latency and high fidelity interface between a software application and a computer's sound card. Whereas Microsoft's DirectSound is commonly used as an intermediary signal path for non-professional users, ASIO allows musicians and sound engineers to access external hardware directly.

Overview[edit]

ASIO4ALL is just a software-based ASIO emulator and does not provide true low latency audio. It is designed and intended to trick professional software that only works with ASIO drivers into working with hardware that does not have its own native ASIO drivers. ASIO4ALL 2.14 is a free and alternative audio driver which allows its users to get very low latency from their sound adapter. While most sound cards on the market allow you to playback audio without issue, ASIO4ALL provides a free alternative if you're having issues running software which increases latency on sound output.

ASIO bypasses the normal audio path from a user application through layers of intermediary Windows operating system software so that an application connects directly to the sound card hardware. Each layer that is bypassed means a reduction in latency (the delay between an application sending audio information and it being reproduced by the sound card, or input signals from the sound card being available to the application). In this way, ASIO offers a relatively simple way of accessing multiple audio inputs and outputs independently.

Operating systems[edit]

Interface support is normally restricted to Microsoft Windows. Starting with Windows Vista, KMixer has been removed and replaced by WASAPI and a new WaveRT port driver.

There is also an experimental ASIO driver for Wine, WineASIO,[1] for a Windows compatibility layer for Linux. WineASIO driver uses the JACK sound server as its audio back-end and allows many ASIO-aware applications to run with low latency under WINE.

Other free or open source alternatives are ASIO4All,[2] FlexASIO,[3] ASIO2KS,[4] and ASIO2WASAPI.[5]

Being a proprietary protocol, it does not have any universal compatibility with Windows-based DAW and other recording software. For example, the user manual of the Audacity audio editor states: 'Licensing restrictions prevent us including ASIO support in released versions of Audacity, but Audacity can be compiled with ASIO support for private, non-distributable use.'[6]

ASIO4ALL is just a software-based ASIO emulator and does not provide true low latency audio.
It is designed and intended to trick professional software that only works with ASIO drivers into working with hardware that does not have its own native ASIO drivers.
It will not provide true low latency audio as a real ASIO driver would. This is not possible for WDM devices which are inherently higher latency.
In fact, it may cause you problems in some cases due to the additional system overhead it causes to perform its ASIO emulation.
If your sound card or controller does not come with real dedicated native ASIO drivers then your best option is to use conventional WDM audio.
NOTE: If you are not a scratch DJ, then low latency is less important. Low latency is important for a good quality scratch sound and fast response. It's also essential for instant play. If you don't need these features, then WDM audio will be sufficient in most cases, and it's also less susceptible to audio break-up on systems that have not been optimised for low latency audio.
NOTE: ASIO4ALL is not compatible with or available for Apple Mac computers. This is because MacOS uses CoreAudio which natively provides low latency audio. No special drivers are normally required for this, and ASIO drivers do not exist for Mac.
